What is trauma?
Trauma is what happens when an experience overwhelms your ability to cope and your mind and body get stuck trying to process it. It doesn't have to be a single dramatic event. Trauma can come from childhood wounds, toxic relationships, medical experiences, systemic harm, or years of being dismissed, unseen, or unsafe. And it doesn't always look the way people expect. Trauma can show up as numbness, hypervigilance, difficulty trusting, or just a constant feeling that something is off. Healing is possible, not by forgetting what happened, but by changing the way it lives in you.
Symptoms may include:
Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares
Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected from yourself
Being easily startled or always feeling "on alert"
Avoiding people, places, or things that remind you of the experience
Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe in relationships
Irritability, anger, or emotional outbursts
Shame, guilt, or blaming yourself for what happened
Feeling like the world is dangerous or that you can't protect yourself
Physical symptoms with no clear medical cause
