What is depression?
Depression is more than feeling sad. It's a weight that follows you into every part of your day, making it hard to get out of bed, hard to connect with the people you love, and hard to remember what it felt like to actually want things. Sometimes depression shows up after a loss or a life change. Other times, it settles in quietly and without an obvious reason. Either way, it's real, it's heavy, and it's not a reflection of your strength or your worth. Depression is one of the most common and most treatable mental health challenges there is. With the right support, it is possible to feel like yourself again.
Symptoms may include:
Feeling empty, numb, or persistently sad
Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
Low energy, fatigue, or feeling physically slowed down
Difficulty sleeping — too much or not enough
Changes in appetite or weight
Feelings of worthlessness, shame, or excessive guilt
Trouble concentrating, remembering things, or making decisions
Withdrawing from loved ones and social situations
Thoughts of hopelessness, death, or not wanting to be here
